Why We Use Plaid

Learn how Aureus securely connects to your financial institutions using Plaid.

Why We Use Plaid

Aureus uses Plaid to securely connect your financial accounts.

Rather than asking you to manually enter balances and transactions—or asking you to share your online banking credentials directly with Aureus—Plaid provides a secure connection between your financial institutions and your Aureus account.

This allows Aureus to automatically import the financial information needed to power features like budgeting, cash flow analysis, investment tracking, and your Financial Health Score.

Why Does Aureus Use Plaid?

Plaid is one of the most widely used financial connectivity platforms and helps millions of people securely connect their financial accounts to trusted financial applications.

Using Plaid allows Aureus to:

  • Securely connect to thousands of financial institutions.
  • Automatically import balances and transactions.
  • Keep your financial information up to date.
  • Reduce the need for manual data entry.
  • Help protect your online banking credentials.

Simply put, Plaid makes connecting your financial accounts easier, more secure, and more reliable.

How Account Connections Work

Connecting a financial institution is straightforward.

  1. Open Accounts in Aureus.
  2. Select either Connect Bank or Connect 401(k) / Brokerage.
  3. Search for your financial institution.
  4. Sign in securely through Plaid.
  5. Complete any authentication requested by your financial institution.
  6. Choose which accounts you'd like to share with Aureus.

After the connection is complete, Aureus imports the financial information needed to provide the features you've chosen to use.

Does Aureus Receive My Online Banking Password?

No.

Your online banking credentials are entered securely through Plaid or directly with your financial institution during the authentication process.

Aureus does not ask for, receive, or store your online banking username or password.

This is one of the key reasons we use Plaid.

What Information Is Shared?

When you connect a financial institution, Aureus receives the financial information needed to provide the features you use.

Depending on the accounts you connect, this may include:

  • Account balances
  • Transaction history
  • Investment information
  • Account names and basic account details

The exact information available depends on your financial institution and the permissions you authorize during the connection process.

Managing Connected Accounts

You remain in control of your connected financial institutions.

You can:

  • Connect additional accounts.
  • Disconnect financial institutions.
  • Synchronize account information.
  • Review your connected accounts at any time.

Removing a connection stops Aureus from importing new information from that institution.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why can't I just enter my bank password into Aureus?

Using a trusted financial connectivity provider like Plaid is a more secure approach than asking users to share their online banking credentials directly with an application.

This allows your financial institution to authenticate you without exposing your banking password to Aureus.

Why doesn't my investment account appear?

Many investment providers require the dedicated Connect 401(k) / Brokerage connection instead of the standard bank connection.

If you don't see your investment account, try using the investment connection option.

Can I disconnect an institution later?

Yes.

You can remove connected financial institutions from the Accounts page whenever you no longer want Aureus to synchronize your financial information.

Does Aureus sell the financial information I connect through Plaid?

No.

Aureus does not sell your personal financial information.
